Love me, I’m a liberal

I mourned the Tiananmen martyrs

Whose free speech was so brutally quelled

And I cheered when Mandela walked freely

After so many years in a cell

But Chelsea Manning had to face justice

Those secrets were not hers to tell

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal

I joined the big anti nuclear-protests

in both Amsterdam and the Hague

The cold war was really intense then

I’m glad nuclear war never came

But now’s not a good time for disarmament

Because Putin would blow us away

so love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal

I cheered when Obama was chosen

My faith in the system restored

It’s too bad in Holland we don’t have

a black candidate to vote for

And I love hard-working Morrocans

As long as they don’t move next door

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal

I care very much for the climate,

I turn off the lights when I leave,

And I always make sure when I’m flying

to compensate by planting trees,

And I think we should shut down all coal plants

around the year twenty-fifty

So love me, love me love me, I’m a liberal

My chocolate, I always buy fairtrade

and my coffee and tea when I can

I’m glad we can make a real difference

By buying from all the right brands

We’re gonna make poverty history

I’m on Facebook, taking a stand!

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal

[All these people in extreme right-wing parties

Disgrace the Netherlands’ name

I just can’t understand how their minds work

The Telegraaf must have programmed their brains

But if you think we can open our borders,

You must be clinically insane

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal]

Sure once I was young and impulsive

I wore every conceivable pin

A radical change to the system

I actually thought we might win

Ah, but I’ve grown older and wiser

And that’s why I’m turning you in

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal

Nou oke, hier is het origineel
